The Chicago Bulls may not be "seeing red" anymore, but the first graders will be on Thursday--first graders are to wear a &lt;span style="color:#cc0000;"&gt;red shirt&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt; (of any kind) with shorts for play at the park, along with gym shoes. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;No lunch need be brought--we will have McDonald's lunch, provided by Parent Forum. If you have not already brought in your child's completed permission slip for Field Day (was in the Friday folder), please return this slip as soon as possible. Don't forget the sunscreen and hat! &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Wednesday--school uniforms as usual--school as usual.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Friday (Last Day of School)--students are in school uniform, and they will attend Mass and receive their report cards. Dismissal will be at 10:00.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;We cannot believe that the school year is coming to a close! Where did the time go??? We enjoyed having your child on our classes--we will miss them over the summer! We look forward to seeing them around when they are in second grade and hope they'll give us a smile and wave in the hall! Hope you enjoyed the week off!&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;New spelling words: ice, nice, race, page, edge, large, home, those, hello, love, there, two. Challenge words will be on the practice list, given out on Monday.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;New high-frequency words: become, busy, eyes, high, listen, remembered, visitor, talk.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;This week's robust vocabulary: pleased, joy, stammered, puzzling, probing, unrelenting.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;We are beginning a math unit about geometry (solid shapes such as sphere, cube, pyramid, cylinder, rectangular prism and cone); plane shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, circle); faces on a solid shape; sides and corners on a plane shape; following directions; positional words.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Please return your child's completed Book-It calendar this week. To prepare for Christmas, the first graders (along with our kindergarten neighbors) participate in weekly Advent prayer services.   We gather to sing the echo song, "Waiting by the Window."  We listen to short Bible stories as we light a candle on the Advent wreath. We used colorful stamps and stickers and the cards looked lovely!  We discussed the important role that soldiers have and many of us mentioned loved ones who have or are currently serving in our armed forces.
